“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
When the future is uncertain we can focus on what is unchanging. All of us have probably had the thought, “I wish things could get back to normal.” The problem is that even “normal” is not something we can be certain of in our future. Change in an earthly sense is inevitable. What doesn’t have to change is a faith perspective that helps us stay anchored to the Rock of Ages. God is “immutable” (unchanging) and He is eternally the Same! The Scripture for today says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” We can all memorize that verse. That means though things around are uncertain our hope, victory, a glorious outcome, a life of joy and peace is certain for the believer.
Here are some things that are certain that we can focus on.
1. God’s truth and promises never change. He isn’t going to change His mind about all things working together for good to those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.
2. God’s love never changes. He is never in a bad mood towards us. He never says “you guys drive me crazy, I need a time out from being Your Lord.” Paul says, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels or demons, neither present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
3. God’s call and purpose for your life hasn’t changed. Set-backs to stop His plan to use you are actually “set ups” to use you in a greater way. Romans 11:29 says, “for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.” Isn’t it true when people hurt the most God moves the most.
4. God’s presence and promise to carry you through every storm never changes. Jesus said, “I am with you always even to the end of the age.” (Mat. 28:20) One of my favorite verses for this crisis is Isaiah 43:1b-2 “O Israel (put your name here) the one who formed you says, ‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you, I have called you by name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.”
What is absolutely true my friend is that what won’t change is a million times bigger than anything that might change. Wherever this storm takes us, you can be sure of one thing. If you continue to walk in faith, you are going to end up somewhere better. In Jesus name.
Love,
Dale
